The National Retail Federation projects the average person celebrating Valentine’s Day this year will shell out about $126, or 8.5 percent more than the $116.21 they spent last year. The 2012 Valentine’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGinsight, showed this year’s spending was the highest in the survey’s 10-year history. The total spending is expected to reach $17.6 billion.
