15-year-old charged with murder for shooting 16-year-old over a bike
"It's a tough situation for everybody," he said.
Robertson was with two other youths Feb. 8 in front of a house in the 3600 block of Kewanee Drive, across the street from his home, when Quarles approached them, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Quarles confronted Robertson, who was a 10th grader at Santaluces High School, about stealing his bike and they argued. Quarles took the bike, went home which is about a four-minute drive away, came back about 15 minutes later with a .38-caliber revolver and shot and killed Robertson, police say.
Robertson, who loved bicycles, recently bought the bicycle in question for $40 but did not know that it was stolen, family members previously said.
Quarles' parents declined to comment to media outside of the courtroom Friday.
The Quarles live in a home at the end of a street in suburban Lantana tucked away and hidden by trees, guarded by a sign stopping trespassers and cars from continuing forward.
It's much like what Frank Quarles' life was before the shooting––some neighbors said Friday–– protected from the outside.
