Florist business changes hands
OWOSSO — A month ago, one of the city’s oldest floral shops was on the verge of closing its doors. Then longtime manager Patty Wing came to the rescue.
Wing, who completed the purchase of Sunnyside Florist Tuesday, wants the community to know that the 117-year-old shop is still alive and kicking, and on the way to being restored to its glory days.
“We’re in the process of building up our inventory and getting back on track to what we used to be, as fast as we can,” Wing said Wednesday. “We know it’s a lot of work, but we’re going to be here for people.”
When former owner Donna Hill decided to move on after 18 years, the news stunned Wing and Sunnyside’s other employees. Wing said she never aspired to own a floral shop, but decided last week to take on what she knew would be an awesome responsibility.
“I didn’t want the employees to lose their jobs or for me to lose my job,” said Wing, 52, who lives in Owosso with husband Jerry Wing. “We’ve put a lot of work into (the shop), and I didn’t want to see it gone.”
