Keene Floral building for sale; accounts move to Shelby's
KENNEWICK -- When Keene Floral closes its doors in early June, Kennewick will lose a bit of downtown history.
The converted house at the corner of First Avenue and Dayton Street has been a florist shop for about 50 years.
Owner Jackie Brown, 60, worked there when she was in her teens when it was Millie Jordan's Floral.
"Millie lived in the apartment behind the shop," Brown said. "Later she sold it and someone else ran the floral shop for a while before Harvey Keene bought it."
Keene, who served on the Kennewick City Council for 12 years, died in February.
Brown bought the business and building about six years ago and kept the name just as she kept The Flower Basket's name when she bought the Court Street business.
"I also worked at The Flower Basket when I was in high school. That's what made it fun buying those two businesses," she said.
Now, she is consolidating the shops.
"I'm at a point where I'd like to slow down; life is about other stuff than work. We all come to that point at sometime," she said.
