A UNIQUE headscarf designed and made by Hinderclay student Sophie Bowden received Royal approval last week when the 20-year-old undergraduate presented it to The Queen.
Miss Bowden is a second year printed textile design student at De Montfort University in Leicester.
She was introduced to The Queen who was visiting the city last Thursday and her headscarf was one of the first gifts to be presented to the monarch as she started her Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK.
Miss Bowden, a former Hartismere School student who went on to study at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds before getting a place at university, printed the pink, mink and grey coloured silk for the headscarf just before the visit. She said: “I used a silk devoré which I made using a chemical to burn the pattern and then printed on top in a darker shade to create a lacy pattern with a floral border.
“I absolutely love designing and creating fabrics so to do it for someone this high profile is utterly brilliant. My family are very proud.”
