Shirley Ann Misenhimer, 78
Shirley Ann Misenhimer, 78, of Flora, IL died at 12:50 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Shirley was born on September 30, 1933 in Pontiac, Illinois to Charles Hanks and Hazel Littlewood Hanks. She married Bernice “Bud” Misenhimer on July 20, 1951.
Shirley was a vital member of the Clay County community and gave of her time and talents to the Flora Garden Club, the Clay County Country Club, the Beta Sigma Phi service sorority, and local bridge groups. As a member of the First Baptist Church, she played the organ for decades of services. Shirley was an energetic lifelong learner, always willing to travel for new adventures—from New York City to Palm Springs to Florence, Italy. She embraced opportunities to be productive, through the years employed at a local bank and realty offices, at a commodities firm, as a medical study subject because of her perfect health, and even working from home as a drapery seamstress while raising four children. She was skilled at sewing, crafts, and cooking, and family and friends alike benefited from the results. Shirley loved golfing, swimming, skiing, and gardening; competition, fun, and fitness were part of nearly her entire life. With her husband, children, in-laws, and grandchildren, Shirley made a warm, welcoming, and beautiful home. She will be sorely missed.
He placed a red-and-white floral wreath and snapped a salute. In doing so, Charette had formally selected that coffin to represent all the nameless lost in World War II. It is interred today at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery
